From My Sketchbooks
More ideas for paintings from July 2017.

Kraken in a jar, for Elliot’s D n’ D character.

Started as winged serpent and ended up looking like Medical Emblem

One of my favorites; I want to capture the light.

Pterasaur vs. Pelican outside of Moss Landing

My favorite drawing: It’s the light, the pattern, the subject. I’m afraid to tackle a painting: will it match up?

The lesser known PAISLEY Dinosaurs

Archaeologists uncovering dragon skeleton.

I thought Tilden Said “Ghost in the Grapes” was the name of his game.

Practicing patterns and light with fish.

One is not a kite.

Clueless Fisherman

Hell or High Water She Would Finish Her Book!
The above is a sketch for Elliot’s Story of a gifted young lad who can hear Spirits talking. Elliot is currently expanding the story into a graphic novel.
I love the film “My Neighbor, Totoro,” especially the reverence paid to nature and the forest.
Dinosaurs and over-size reptiles among a beautiful river-side city is a setting for another book idea. I’m sure death by Mosasaur would occur frequently in this environment.
The above drawing started the collaboration with Elliot on his book. He loved the idea of the personal islands with walkways between them. Of course, my favorite, ever-present, boat balloon is nearby. Originally, I was asking myself how small an island did I feel comfortable living on?
The above drawing is based on an actual experience I had in my 20s with my friend, Leslie. We went kayaking in Moss Landing, CA. A well known spot for great white sharks to bear their young. I had only seen little nippers, about 18 inches long before. But one day, we are paddling down one of the smaller tributaries, between the high, mud walls topped with pickleweed and perforated by Inn-keeper worms, and I look down below our kayaks to see a huge shark. It was not moving, so I assumed at the time, it was dead.
The above sketch I think of as the “Poached Poacher”. I’m actually fine with recreational hunting in the traditional manner (rifles, not semi-automatic weapons). Personally, I don’t want to, but I have nothing against those who hunt and eat what they hunt (during season).
I don’t know what compelled me to draw this, however, not long after I heard someone was going around Sweden creating little shops for mice in towns. I do think, if you had a gnome living with you, he would need a smaller door he could open and close: makes sense.
Is it steampunk? I just love the idea of the flying boats. Quietly floating over the landscape in all kinds of weather.
My husband, Birk, this time paddle-boarding over a kronosaurus. That would be very dangerous, were it possible. Somehow, I’m confident Birk would know what to do. (Once he saw this sketch he pointed out he has only been paddle-boarding once; but he looked cute doing it!)
This sketch is a re-do of another sketch that did not work out. I wish I had a model! I am trying to capture the moment a women awakes with the uneasy feeling she is doomed to be a mother in a Disney Movie.
